I have a 16 year old Chow/Spitz mix that I rescue literally from the jaws of death 12 years ago. My two younger children and I went to the pound in search for a small dog when we noticed Shadoe. The Animal Control Officer and vet were standing in front of his cage, discussing putting him down the next morning. Needless to say, we brought him home and he has been my Shadoe-baby ever since. Here recently, I notice him panting almost all the time except when he is sleeping or napping with our JRT. He does not have heart worms or heart defect that our vet could detect. I am afraid my baby won't be with me much longer. he has a hard time getting up from a lying position and cant jump up to give me loves anymore. He loves to be outside but we recently had to bring him in permanently because his hips are giving him such problems. This way I can keep a close eye on him. His panting really bothers me. Is this just old age? I don't want my baby to be in pain. After all, would I allow one of my human children live in pain? No. And I don't want any of my four legged children to hurt either. Any suggestions?
